Read About Barry's Brother,
and New Author Mark Ozeroff
"Charged with adrenaline, Return Fire is a high-speed police thriller that never lets you off the edge of your seat. Equal parts mystery and action thriller, Return Fire is page-turning fiction at its very best."
--the American Author's Association (www.americanauthorsassociation.com/)

"RETURN FIRE leaps off the page, and hits the reader between the eyes like a high-powered rifle bullet. Barry Ozeroff's writing is gritty, hard-edged, and utterly compelling. This book has bestseller written all over it."
--Jeff Edwards, Award-Winning Author of TORPEDO, and THE SEVENTH ANGEL

Gresham Author's First Novel a Winner:
His debut effort is a potent tale that drips with authenticity. Chock full of authentic detail and action, 'Sniper Shot' is a first-class police procedural. The plot moves at breakneck speed, but with a certainty that permits readers to vicariously walk in Geller's [the protagonist's] shoes. Ozeroff's finale leaves many questions unanswered, making a sequel likely. That's a welcome pleasure to look forward to.

A demonstration of the prone and sitting positions. The prone postion is by far the most stable shooting position a police sniper is likely to take in the field.

The kneeling position, on the other hand is one of the more unstable positions. Snipers are trainied in it, and regularly practice it, but try to avoid this position as much as possible.

Nobody is able to look through the scope for hours on end without a break. After even ten minutes it can feel as if your eye is being pulled out of its socket. In order to get a better view of the target location and relieve eye strain, snipers spend a great deal of time scanning over the top of the rifle. While doing this, they keep the rifle zeroed on the the best target available so they can quickly get on scope if the need arises. During the time when the suspect is visible (in a window, walking around outside, etc), or when the team is moving and we are covering them, the sniper will be on scope regardless of how long it takes.

An idea of how proper dress can help you blend into your environment. With camouflage face paint, gloves, and a camouflage net covering the sniper and the rifle, the sniper would be virtually impossible to see. Geometric shapes, squares, rectangles, circles, etc. do not normally occur in nature, and the human eye is naturally drawn to them. The circle formed by the lens of the scope is usually the first thing spotted by someone looking for a sniper. Covering the rifle and scope with camouflage netting greatly helps reduce his visibility.

But far and away, the single biggest factor that will get a sniper spotted is movement. The ability to remain perfectly still is paramount to blending in with your surroundings. Most snipers can tell you that spiders, ants, and other insects can seem to be a bigger threat than the bad guy.

The rifle is equipped with a telescoping bipod mounted to the front stock. The bipod can be folded up under the barrel when not in use. Use of this bipod greatly increases the sniper's stability. In this case, the availability of a storm drain sewer cap provides a comfortable support for shooting at a target up a low hill.
